Even in times when there’s an urgent need and manufacturers want to act as quickly as possible, health and safety regulations must be adhered to. In the case of manufacturers who want to start producing hand sanitizers, OSHA (as well as other global safety regulators) require a complete and accurate Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for all chemical products being distributed to the public and/or used on site.
As part of its contributions to the COVID-19 response efforts, ERA Environmental Management Solutions is providing a free set of SDS templates for different hand sanitizer formulations. These templates include the full 16-sections required by the Globally Harmonized System along with the complete chemical constituent formula so that any manufacturer with access to the required chemicals can begin manufacturing hand sanitizer. The templates are for ethanol-based and Isopropyl alcohol-based formulations.
By downloading the free SDS templates, manufacturers will be able to add their own corporate logo and rapidly produce a fully-safety compliant sanitizing product suitable for human use. All relevant safety and health hazards are listed in the SDS templates, and these templates are non-proprietary so that anyone can use them.
ERA Environmental hopes that these templates will help ease the demand for hand sanitizer and other PPE, as at this moment many businesses with the capacity to manufacture sanitizer may not have the internal resources or tools to develop the chemical safety documentation needed to allow them to do so. For this reason, ERA has donated the time and expertise of its team of chemists and GHS specialists.
